Why is the violin so hard to play?
(And the viola, and the 'cello, and the bass...)

There are a number of technical reasons why, but something that is ALWAYS overlooked by other instrumentalists is this:
Music is conceived, structured, heard and played in octaves.
String instruments are tuned in fifths.
(Most bass players tune their instruments in fourths.)
